Far West 11th Street Railings, 2006

Oil on Canvas
40 x 40 inches

354 West 11th Street, 1844

In this version of the "plain" style of the early 1840s, all scrollwork has disappeared in favor of a more rectilinear treatment.  The square spindles are spaced at three per tread with a square-in-square fret at the base.  Other examples of this pattern appear on Bedford Street, West 13th Street and West 22nd Street.
