A circle of rust over the newel post attests to the recent disappearance of a decorative urn.  Does this loss denigrate the aesthetic or enhance it?  Do we accept this loss or try to prevent or reverse it?  Or do we accept the loss and put our effort into documenting the remaining architectural fabric of the ruins of the old city?
