57 Bank Street, 1842
The parallel stripes of the shadows of this railing reflect the rectilinear design of this "plain"-style stoop. Circle-in-the-square frets appear at the base of each triplet of spindles. Shortly after the completion of this painting, the ironwork of the matching stoop next door at 55 Bank Street was completely destroyed and replaced with non-historic and poorly executed ironwork, despite the landmark status of the building.
